July 23: Food Relief at Kolakham Village. In response to the request by the 38th Lava Lengshey Relief Committee, 14 of us set out with Khenpo Sherab Gyaltsen and Thinlay Ngodup to Kolakham to conduct a food relief program for 5 remote villages. Not more than 15 minutes after setting off from Lava Monastery, we encountered problems. The road was blocked by mudslides. It took 45 minutes to clear the way using bare hands as we were not prepared with shovel! Around noon when we were ready to distribute the relief items, it began to pour! We gave to each of the 120 families a 25kg bag of rice, 3 kgs dal, 2 kgs sugar, 1 kg tea-leaves, 1kg salt and 5 litres oil. They came from Lower and Upper Lungchu, Dagyong, Lebong and Kolakham. Despite the obstacles on the way and the wet, grim weather, it cheered us to see that everyone obviously appreciated the relief supplies they received.
